General information
The Juliana van Stolbergschool is the only Protestant school in Sint Maartensdijk, which is situated on the Zealand island of Tholen. Sint Maartensdijk has appr. 3,500 inhabitants. The school is attended by 100 children.

The school originates with the society "School with the Bible". The foundation is as follows: The union professes and embraces the Holy Scripture being the Word of God as the only foundation for our faith and life. We furthermore subscribe to the three "Formularies of Unity".

The climate in the school
In the school's climate the central position of the Bible in the education is stressed. This reveals itself not only in the daily Bible lessons, the religious meetings or the celebration of Christian holy days but in the entire education. Living in accordance with the Word of God has to be reflected in the school. The rules of life as they come to us in the Ten Commandments and in their summary by the Lord Jesus are for us the standard and starting-point for living and working at school.

The organisation of the school
The organisation of the school is based on a year group system, i.e. in each year a prearranged amount of subject-matters has to be finished. In principle the children keep up with each other's working. At school we try to teach single year-groups, but in actual practice this is not always possible. Therefore due to the small number of children combined-classes have to be formed. These classes are created both in the lower groups (1/2 and 3/4) as well as in the higher groups (5/6 and 7/8).

The special care class
For some time now we have a special care class. For this class children who have difficulties with several parts of the curricullum are selected. It's possible that a child has such troubles concerning concentration, working habits, surveying their task, that these problems constitute an obstacle to learning. This child therefore needs a quiet setting where he will not be distracted from his work. Some characteristics are:

  • The children begin in their own group with the Bible lesson.
  • In the afternoon the children are also in their own group.
  • The maximum number of children in the special care class is 8, which makes extra attention and support possible.
  • In principle the special care class is meant for children of the groups 4 -7.
  • The minimum stay is half a year.
  • The intake is in January or August.
  • Parents are directly involved in this process.
